In order to read the open the newsletter, your computer must support Microsoft Word.We have been studying a lot about money in First Grade! By the end of Chapter 9, your child should be able to:
1. Identify all coins (penny, nickel, dime, quarter, half-dollar) and know the value of each coin.
2. Count onto a number by ones, fives, tens, in order to count change (i.e. 3 dimes and two nickels can be counted as follows: "10, 20, 30, 35, 40").
3. Count groups of mixed coins (pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, half-dollars). Please practice counting money with real coins at home and by playing games on the math page of this wiki. Current Academic Goals (May 10, 2010) WORD WALL WORD GOAL:Students should know 98-100% of current word wall list (Units 1-5). First Grade students have learned 160 word wall words so far this year. FLUENCY GOAL: Students should be able to comfortably read 60 words per minute, as of May 1! ROCKET MATH GOAL: Please practice math facts! Students should know all zero addition facts (0+1, 0+2, 0+3, etc.), one facts (1+1, 1+2,1+3, etc.), two facts through seven (2+1, 2+2, 2+3, 2+4, 2+5, 2+6, 2+7, 2+8), and double facts through ten! WRITING GOAL: Students should be able to write a minimum of five sentences in a paragraph focused on one topic. Students should be able to write a one support sentence for each detail sentence he writes. Students should follow the "CUPS" model for writing mechanics (Capitalize each sentence, write for Understanding, Punctuate each sentence, Space your words). Parents: Drop me an e-mail at tbledsoe@rowva.k12.il.us and tell me you have visited our wiki space. Your child will get to eat a special lunch with me the first week in May if you visit the wiki!
